Blatchford Neighbourhood Planning
Planning and developing a sustainable neighbourhood requires attention to details at varying scales.
Blatchford is located on the former City Centre Airport lands and will result in a mixed-use, walkable, sustainable, multimodal, four-season neighbourhood that will be home to 30,000, 11,000 jobs, and reconnect neighbourhoods.
Martinson Golly staff have provided transportation planning expertise for the Blatchford neighbourhood dating back to 2015. Our team members started supporting the development as active transportation experts for the design of the streets and pathways network to be built in Stage 1, including protected intersection designs, plazas and shared spaces, intersection designs, traffic controls, and the design of a multimodal roundabout. They also provided technical direction to transportation network planning for future stages of the community and provided technical advisory support for Stage 2 as well as support for review of the extension of the Metro Line LRT through Blatchford.
Our team members also led the development of a transportation study to review the multimodal transportation networks, establish modal priorities for each street, and develop cross sections for streets and active modes connections to support subdivision and rezoning of land in Blatchford that will be sold to NAIT for their campus expansion.
Martinson Golly staff authored the multimodal transportation plan for the Blatchford neighbourhood - an update to a dated transportation impact assessment (TIA) for the neighbourhood - that analyzed and identified the long term future and full build out of the neighbourhood's transportation system including walking, cycling, transit, and streets as well as the connections and interface with the light rail transit system and surrounding arterial street network.
We wrapped up our near decade of support by participating in a review and upate of the streets, parks, and open spaces for the neighbourhood. This included a review of off-street pathways, parks and open spaces layouts, and support for the integration of drainage facilities.
We are thrilled to have been part of this sustainable transformation and enjoy seeing the development progress. If you are planning a move to Edmonton, we encourage you to visit Blatchford as your potential future home.
